It can be interesting as part of a training or tests to virtualize Proxmox using
of VMware workstation. It is not always possible to have a machine available for a new Installation. So I’m going to create a Proxmox virtual machine with a 40 G0 hard drive for the system and an additional 80 GB hard drive.
My virtual machine uses the parameter “network adapter” in “bridged”. I’m on the same network as my physical machine. This configuration will be useful to me later for the ISO image recovery.

  1. Download Proxmox software :

Download Proxmox VE 5.3 ISO Installer https://www.proxmox.com/en/downloads

2. Creating a new machine in VMware :

Select : VMware ESC — — → VMware ESXi 5 — →Click [next]

Once the machine is created (without complete system installation)

Select the Promox machine and click Power on this machine.

On reboot, you can log in with the root account and your password.
It is possible to connect from a client workstation on the same network via a WEB browser to the address https://@IP:8006/ ( in my case the @ Ip is 192.168.44.130 )
The server address may be different depending on your installation.
Since my virtual machine is on the same network as my physical machine, I will be able to use the latter to connect to me.

3. Configuring Promox from a client workstation and WEB interface :

I connect from a post on the network (my physical machine) and a WEB browser.
The address to connect me: https://192.168.44.130:8006/
The address may differ, it is the one of the Promox machine in HTTPS with port 8006.
We connect with the root account of promox and its password.

In the next part we will discover the Proxmox management interface and some basic settings.
